Looking for respite care in Arundel?
It’s officially summer holiday season, and restrictions are now at a point where a break away – in the UK or abroad – is a real prospect.
Many families will worry about an elderly loved one though, and who will look after them. It might be time to consider respite care. A respite stay at St Wilfrid’s could offer the peace of mind you need to enjoy that summer break.
What is respite care?
Staying in a care home isn’t always a permanent move. Care providers like St Wilfrid’s Priory offer permanent residential accommodation but also care on a very flexible, temporary basis. It’s a popular option after some time in hospital to allow for recuperation, or as a way for primary carers to get some support. Allowing yourself a break or holiday is much easier when you can be sure your loved one is being cared for by professionals.
Sometimes, people come to us for a respite stay after a fall or illness to allow themselves some decent time to rest and recuperate properly without being tempted to do too much too soon.
Respite Care at St Wilfrid’s Priory
There are lots of reasons people choose to have a respite stay with us in Arundel. Over the summer, lots of our respite residents come to us while their family carer is away on holiday. It might be that they live independently in their own home but sometimes need an extra helping hand with some tasks. That’s where we come in. We can offer that support while their usual carer is away. Some of our respite residents are regulars and even refer to us as their “holiday home,” which is always lovely to hear that people are so comfortable with us.
Other times, residents come for a respite stay for a week or two to see that it’s the right place for them before they make the move more long-term.
How do I book a respite stay?
Booking a respite stay in Arundel is easy. Give us a call at St Wilfrid’s Priory and we’ll deal with your enquiry as we would with anyone. We’ll find out as much relevant information as we need to allow our care team to meet all the needs of each individual’s care. We’ll do a care needs assessment and write a care plan, just as we do with all our long term residents. That plan always includes the individual’s essential requirements – their needs – as well as their wants, so we also talk about likes and dislikes. It all helps to make their stay with us as comfortable and homely as possible, because it’s important to us that our residents’ physical and mental well-being is looked after.
How long can you stay in respite care?
Respite is a temporary stay, but many of our respite residents return regularly. We love to welcome returning residents, and it often helps people to settle quicker once they are familiar with the surroundings and the people here. It soon starts feeling like home.
