The official opening, held on Wednesday 5 August, brought together residents, employees, and senior leaders from The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), a leading not-for-profit provider that runs the care home, to celebrate the occasion.

During the special event, Lady Howe toured the care home, meeting residents and team members and learning more about the care and support provided, before unveiling a commemorative plaque.  Her visit highlighted the vital role that care homes play in supporting older people, while creating vibrant, connected communities.

Speaking at the opening, Lady Howe said: “It is a great pleasure to officially open Wing View Care Centre. I have enjoyed meeting residents and team members, and I have been impressed by the warmth, kindness and sense of community that is so evident throughout the home."

Clive Hamblet, a designated Resident Representative at Wing View (pictured above), met Lady Howe on her tour of the home and presented her with a gift - a painting of a pony he created especially for her.

Wing View reopened its doors to residents a year ago following an extensive refurbishment that transformed the home into a modern living space. It offers spacious en-suite bedrooms with calming interiors, a welcoming bistro and communal lounges, and landscaped gardens, providing an ideal balance of comfort, independence, and opportunities for socialising. 

Residents at Wing View also benefit from OSJCT’s leading care initiatives, including access to Admiral Nurses — specialist dementia care professionals supported by Dementia UK. OSJCT is one of only ten care providers in the UK with a dedicated team of Admiral Nurses and employs five of the country’s 17 specialists working in care homes, providing expert support to residents living with dementia, their families and care teams.
