Marion Woods, Activities Coordinator at Edwardstow Court, bravely cut off the full length of her hair to raise funds for Dementia UK
On Saturday the 8th of June our Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator, Marion Woods, bravely shaved her head to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK. Edwardstow resident, Ruth, kindly agreed to help out by cutting the full length of Maz’s hair off and then Dementia Lead, Sue, did the rest! Marion’s fundraising event took place at Edwardstow’s Summer Fair, with lots of people from the community supporting, including one little girl who saw Marion was nervous and kindly held her hand throughout to support her!

Here's what Marion said about her fundraising experience: “I’ve grown my hair for over ten years...now it’s all coming off! It has been an absolute privilege to support and care for those living with Dementia and their families. Working for The Order of St John Care Trust has been an amazing and rewarding experience. There has been much laughter and some tears but it has all been worth it as I know I am doing everything I can to make sure each person’s day is filled with joy, happiness, contentment and fun! I ensure compassion, empathy and love is always given to both individuals and their families. I have been touched by the love and compassion shown by our wonderful Admiral Nurses and have learnt so much from them. The exceptional training I have received from our Admiral Nurses has ensured that those I care for and support can get the absolute best out of their lives in a meaningful way."
Savannah Redhead, Community Fundraising Executive at Dementia UK said:
“We are so grateful to Maz for organising this fundraiser for Dementia UK. Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia. Thanks to the hard work of our amazing fundraisers like Maz, more families than ever will be able to access the life-changing support offered by our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses and national Dementia Helpline.”
