Marlborough Care Home Residents Dance Into The Night
The team at Coombe End Court in Marlborough turned the in-house café, Kaspers, into Kaspers Night Club for a one-night-only event.
Home Manager, Kelly, organised the event after, Alan, a resident at Coombe End Court, approached her on behalf of the resident committee asking for an event for the residents and staff that had never been done before. The brief was broad, and Kelly accepted the challenge! Alan and the residents requested something “fun, exciting, and entertaining,” something that the residents would never have thought could be possible.
Kelly came up with the idea of a night club event, and the residents were very keen and excited for this to go ahead.
The Head of Care, Michelle, and a carer, Sarah, as well as Kelly and Alan, surprised the staff and residents by dressing up as 80s icons - Alan’s idea! Alan is a big fan of the film Top Gun and dressed up as Maverick, complete with flying overalls and aviator sunglasses, whilst Sarah dressed up as his partner, Goose. Alan wanted to see star guest appearances and invited Kelly to dress up as Michael Jackson, and Michelle as Dolly Parton.
The café was transformed into a bar, with a dance floor, disco ball and lights. There were cocktails, mocktails and beer. There were even ‘bouncers’ on the door, thanks to carers, Milton and Marie, who stamped the hands of those that attended.
Music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s was played throughout the three-hour event. Alan said it was the best night he has had for a long time, and the 4-week build-up to the event was part of the enjoyment for him. Alan and the other residents were getting excited as each day passed and couldn’t believe it was really going to happen.
Resident Richard said, “I had so much fun dancing to the music!” Other feedback included that it was the best surprise, and that they have really enjoyed the food, drinks, and music.
Another resident commented that “I never thought I would ever be in a nightclub again; I had forgotten how much fun they were.”
