Marston Court Day Centre, on Marston Road, Oxford, is holding a Taster Week for local over 65-year-olds to try out the service for free.
The Day Centre, which is part of Marston Court care home, runs on weekdays, 10am – 3pm. Everyone who attends can enjoy a full day of activities and entertainment as well as a hot lunch, refreshments, and light meal to take away.
Regular attendees make friends and enjoy being part of a safe and sociable space. The Day Centre helps to tackle loneliness and offers a chance for family carers to have some free time whilst their loved one is looked after by professional carers.
During the Taster Week (27 November – 1 December) newcomers can try out the Day Centre free of charge (usual price £40 per day, sometimes subsidised by the Local Authority), subject to a short care assessment. Featured entertainment at the Day Centre will include animal mania on Monday, Charlotte’s Keep Fit Class on Tuesday, saxophonist, Alan Hook on Wednesday, guitarist and singer, Tristan on Thursday and a Friday coffee morning followed by crafts and games.
Sharon Fenn, Marston Court Manager, said: “We are really proud of our Day Centre because it is a chance for people to come together and make friends, try new hobbies and make memories.”
Catherine and John are full of praise for the Day Centre. Catherine said: “People are so kind and work hard to make sure people are well catered for. There is a lot of kindness, and excellent food.” John said: “I really enjoy coming to the Day Centre, I especially enjoy the dinners.’
Another Day Centre attendee, Julie, commented: “I enjoy being in company of lots of nice people and I like the activities.”
