Maureen's story
The next chapter
Coming to a care home really is the start of something new and an opportunity to rekindle those interests that may have started to slip.
Maureen moved into Goodson Lodge eight months ago and whilst her story is special, it is not unusual, in terms of the difference that moving into their new home makes to residents' lives.
By getting to know Maureen and taking an individual person-centred approach to her care, there has been a significant amount of progress in Maureen's wellbeing and quality of life.
When Maureen moved in, she was disorientated and agitated. However, working with the Goodson team and our wider network of health professionals, Maureen’s daughter observes that 'she is like a new woman!'. By providing excellent care and offering a range of stimulating activities, Maureen now has a new set of interests in her life, not to mention some new friends. She joins in with many of the amazing activities on offer at Goodson Lodge throughout the week and at weekends!
Maureen’s daughter comments; “Mum has been at Goodson Lodge Care Centre for eight months and we as a family couldn’t be more delighted with her experience. The home itself is so well designed with a hair salon, garden lounge, cafe, cinema and fabulous gardens. There is always a warm welcome on arrival. She receives very attentive care and the team go the extra mile for every individual making them feel special and loved.”
Home Manager Amanda Palfrey said, “Our residents are at the forefront of everything we do and when we see old interests reignited and new passions developing, it is fantastic for everyone, but most importantly the resident. Seeing how far Maureen has come and the progress she has made in so many areas is quite simply wonderful."
