Mayor of Abingdon launches monthly community coffee morning at Old Station House
Coffee, cake and refreshments on offer at the Abingdon care home, first Friday of every month.

Old Station House in Abingdon has launched a new monthly coffee morning to bring together residents, families, community leaders and local services for a relaxed and sociable start to the day. Conveniently located opposite Waitrose in the heart of town, the care home is easy to find and always offers a warm welcome.
April’s coffee morning was officially opened by the Mayor of Abingdon, Cllr Gabby Barody, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Rawda Jehlani, who enjoyed chatting with residents at the home. Members of the local PCSO team also attended, along with family members, friends, and volunteers, all of whom enjoyed refreshments and friendly conversation.
Volunteers Mike & Melanie Jefferies, who are regular supporters of activities at Old Station House, were also among the guests. Attendees were treated to tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, alongside plenty of cheerful chatter and laughter.

Mayor Gabby Barody praised the initiative. She said: "It was a pleasure for both of us to visit and take part in the coffee morning at Old Station House. We look forward to future conversations and events, and to strengthening the connections that provide support and a sense of community for everyone involved."
Home Manager Sharon Tatum added: "It was wonderful to launch our first monthly coffee morning here at Old Station House. Our residents really enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and it’s lovely to see such a sociable and inclusive atmosphere developing. A big thank you to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Abingdon for joining us to officially open the event – we’re already looking forward to the next one."
The monthly coffee mornings at Old Station House will be held on the first Friday of each month, from 10:30am to 11:45am. The event is free to attend and open to all. The next coffee morning will take place on Friday 2 May.
More than just refreshments, these gatherings offer a valuable opportunity for conversation, connection, and community-building. By creating a welcoming space for residents, families, and neighbours to come together, the initiative helps to combat loneliness and foster new friendships. Everyone is welcome – just bring a smile and enjoy a cuppa!
