Monkscroft Care Centre Honours Local Veterans and Spouses in Special Recognition Ceremony
Monkscroft Care Centre, run by The Orders of St John Care Trust in Cheltenham, proudly hosted a Recognition of Military Service Ceremony on Friday 12 September 2025, to honour six residents who served in the Royal Air Force, the Army, and the Royal Marines, alongside four wives whose steadfast support was vital during and after their husbands’ service.
The ceremony was led by Major Marius Visser, Officer Commanding, 14 Squadron Gurkha Allied Rapid Reaction Corps Support Battalion, who presented each veteran and spouse with a certificate recognising their service and contribution. The event was supported by members of the Military Provost Guard Service and other military representatives, who joined residents, families, and staff in paying tribute.
Among those honoured were residents in their late 80s and early 90s – a poignant reminder of the importance of recognising their stories and sacrifices while we still have the privilege of their presence.
The ceremony included a warm welcome from Monkscroft’s management team, the presentation of certificates, reflections from Major Visser, and concluded with group photographs and light refreshments.
Doreen Paisley, Home Manager at Monkscroft, reflected:
“This event was borne out of the pride and passion our veterans feel when they speak about their service. It was our duty and privilege to ensure their courage and commitment were formally recognised, and to acknowledge the wives whose support has been the backbone of their families. We were delighted to welcome the local military community in joining us for this tribute.”
The moving occasion brought together veterans, families, residents, staff, and local military representatives – a heartfelt celebration of service, sacrifice, and community.
