Monkscroft Care Centre is proud to have been officially recognised with the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) accreditation. This honour highlights the team’s ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional care and support to former members of the Armed Forces living at the home.
Recognising the unique military experiences of many of their residents and partners, Monkscroft met eight rigorous standards. These included identifying Armed Forces status in care plans, connecting residents with local support services such as the Royal British Legion and other veteran-focused charities, and hosting a special reception to honour veterans and their partners.
Terry Lindop, a volunteer at Monkscroft, was instrumental in supporting the care team to achieve accreditation. A veteran himself, Terry plays an active role in supporting residents, especially veterans, bringing a shared understanding of military experience, advocacy and companionship. His commitment and contribution highlight the vital role OSJCT volunteers play in bringing connection, purpose and meaning to residents’ lives.
Lindop said: “As a veteran myself, it has been a real privilege to support fellow veterans living at Monkscroft. Achieving Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation means that their service is recognised, and that they feel respected, understood and valued. The positive impact has been remarkable, from new friendships forming to residents sharing their life stories. I’m incredibly proud to be part of a team that is so committed to the highest standards of care and supporting the veteran community.”
Doreen Paisley, Home Manager at Monkscroft, said: “Thanks to the support of dedicated volunteers like Terry, we are able to achieve so much more for our residents. This accreditation recognises our collective commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone is valued, respected and well cared for.”
The VFF scheme aims to ensure care homes across England are equipped to meet the practical, emotional, and social needs of veterans. Through tailored training and resources, it supports homes like Monkscroft in enhancing the overall wellbeing for the 25,000 veterans residing in care homes nationwide.
Kathryn Glass, VFF Project Lead at Royal Star & Garter, who supports and assesses care homes on the scheme, added: “We’re delighted that Monkscroft has achieved VFF status. This is a great commitment to their continuous improvement in the delivery of person-centred care for veteran residents and their partners. This programme will benefit both current and future residents, along with staff, who are able to access enhanced training and guidance to better engage with the unique military experiences that their residents and partners have lived through.”
The local community is invited to join in celebrating this significant achievement at a special event in the care home on Friday 20 February from 14.00. Refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to meet veterans, volunteers and the care team.
