On 16th September, Lake House had the pleasure of welcoming local photographer Nathan Allan to deliver a special Photography Workshop as part of our Residents’ Wishes / Resident Stories series. The session was organised to help make the dream of our long-time photography enthusiast, Sylvia, come true.
Sylvia has always loved photography, capturing memories and moments over the years with a keen eye and creative flair. Her passion has inspired others around her, and she was excited to take her hobby further with guidance from a professional.
Nathan began the workshop with an engaging talk about the history of cameras, explaining how photography has evolved over time and giving an introduction to digital cameras and how they work. Residents with an interest in photography joined the session, sharing their own photos and personal stories, creating a warm and interactive atmosphere.
After the discussion, Nathan took the group out into the garden, where residents had the chance to experiment with the cameras he had brought along. They enjoyed photographing various objects around the garden, putting into practice the skills and tips Nathan had shared.
Sylvia said,
"It was amazing to learn from Nathan and try out different cameras. I feel inspired to keep taking photos and exploring my creativity."
Home Manager, Alex Grindle, added,
"It was wonderful to see our residents so engaged and excited. At Lake House, we believe that moving into a care home doesn’t mean giving up the things you love — it’s about continuing life in ways that feel familiar and meaningful. Workshops like this give residents the chance to embrace their passions, hold on to their identity, and celebrate everything that makes them who they are."
We would like to thank Nathan Allan for giving up his time to share his expertise with our residents. His skill and creativity as a photographer were truly inspiring and made the workshop an unforgettable experience for everyone.
The workshop was incredibly well received, with residents enjoying every moment and embracing the opportunity to be creative and learn something new. It was a day full of inspiration, creativity, and shared memories—exactly what our Residents’ Wishes programme aims to achieve, helping people live life their way, just as they always have.
