National befriending week 2020
Befriending week (1 – 7 November) raises awareness of befriending and the impact it has on individuals and communities in helping combat feelings of isolation and loneliness.
This year befriending week will shine the spotlight on health and wellbeing and Edwardstow Court are incredibly lucky to have many wonderful volunteers including Kath. Kath has been involved with Edwardstow Court since 2018 when her mother in law moved into Edwardstow Court, Kath befriended many of the residents and got to know them well. Sadly, Kath’s mother in law passed away earlier in the year but Kath still support the homes and the residents.
Volunteers like Kath become extended family to the residents, often just sitting with residents for a cup of tea and a chat or taking a stroll around the woodland walk. It’s so lovely for residents to have these friends and companions in not only the home team but from volunteers too.
Kath said, “I feel like a part of me is missing when I can’t visit Edwardstow, I certainly get as much out of volunteering as I hope the residents do from seeing me.”
