National Dementia Carers Day at The Lakes Care Centre
The Lakes celebrated the wonderful work that carers do by spoiling them with a pamper day
Monday 9th September is National Dementia Carers Day; the support of unpaid carers is invaluable and can transform the lives of those living with dementia. The Lakes Care Centre wanted to recognise the work of family carers and volunteers by treating them to a pamper and a chance to relax. The Lakes hosted the pamper event where people were able to have massage therapy, reiki, reflexology, in addition to tea and cake in a safe and supportive environment.
The Lakes Care Centre runs a bi-monthly carers forum where anyone caring for a person with dementia can meet in a supportive environment to meet other carers. It encourages discussion around caring related topics as well as friendship. It was great for the carers who attended the forum to do something different, where they could take some time for themselves and have someone pamper them for a change.
Mandi Short, Home Manager said “What a great afternoon we all had. I think we all got something out of it and went home a little mellower”.
