National Science Week at Windsor Street Care Centre
Space food, documentaries, Morse code and weather kits were all included in the activity programme
This last week was National Science Week and OSJCT Windsor Street Care Centre decided to use this as an opportunity to learn some new skills based around the interests of residents.
Activities Co-ordinators, Jess and Katie, planned a series of activities for residents to get involved with which included sampling space food, learning Morse code and training on how to predict the weather with a weather kit.
The sampling of the space food proved to be particularly popular as residents chatted through what it might be like to eat these foods in space whilst watching a documentary on space in the aptly decorated cinema room.
OJSCT always promotes the use of different technology throughout its activity programmes and the use of Morse code and weather kits in these certainly fits into this. Several residents even joked about the amount of weather conversations that could be helped if everyone had learned how to use their own weather kit.
Marzanna Urbaniak, Home Manager at Windsor Street, said: “We are always looking for ways to incorporate interests of our residents into our programme of activities. National Science Week has allowed us to do this, as well as continuing to provide mental stimulation by learning new skills.”
“This is yet another example of the fantastic work Jess and Katie do with the varied activity programme, even during these times, at Windsor Street.”
