Volunteers’ Week is always a highlight in the OSJCT calendar. Our annual recognition events celebrate the commitment our volunteers show, and the skills and interests they bring to share with our residents.
It’s Volunteers’ Week, and we’re celebrating the 700 volunteers that give their time across our services.
Volunteering is an important part of what makes our homes feel warm, welcoming and full of life. Alongside the excellent care our colleagues provide, volunteers help residents stay connected to their local community. They offer companionship and share their hobbies and interests, supporting residents to continue with the activities that matter most to them. For many, a volunteer’s visit is the highlight of the week.
To say a huge thank you, we’re hosting four special events to bring volunteers together from across our services. These events are all about celebrating their impact, recognising their contribution, and enjoying some well-deserved time together. There’s cake, plenty of laughter, and a brilliant atmosphere at every event.
One of the best parts of these gatherings is the chance for volunteers to connect with one another. They share stories, exchange ideas and inspire new ways to support residents, whether through activities or simply spending time together. It’s also a special opportunity to recognise those reaching important volunteering milestones, including Ena Fox from Skirbeck in Boston, who recently celebrated an incredible 10 years of volunteering (pictured receiving her award from Louise Berg, OSJCT’s People Director).
Rita, who attended our Lincolnshire event, said:
It was a lovely event for us volunteers. It makes us feel so valued. It’s great to be in a room full of like-minded people, and wonderful to meet so many happy staff.
Charlie, who volunteers with his Therapy dog Monty, attended our event in Wiltshire. He said, “It was a really lovely afternoon. The venue, food and guests were all great. Monty had a wonderful time and especially enjoyed his ‘doggie sausages’!”
Catherine Semmence, Head of Volunteering, said: "Volunteers’ Week is always a highlight in the OSJCT calendar. Our annual recognition events celebrate the commitment our volunteers show, and the skills and interests they bring to share with our residents. Every volunteer offers something unique. They may join us for different reasons and want different things from their experience, but what really stands out at these events is their shared desire to make a meaningful difference to the lives of older people that live with us.”
Could you make a difference?
If you’ve been inspired by our volunteers, why not consider joining them? Whether you have a little time or a lot, there’s a role to suit you. From sharing a hobby to simply having a chat, every moment you give can make a real difference.
