At the Orders of St John Care Trust, we have many years’ experience in dealing with dementia, and we understand the challenges it brings for those living with the disease, and their loved ones. Each person’s journey is different and our specially-trained teams are here to help. Opening a dedicated dementia household at Millbrook Lodge is a positive step for those living with dementia in Gloucestershire.

OSJCT also employs its own specialist dementia Admiral Nurses, who are working with Millbrook Lodge.  They are specialist nurses who benefit from ongoing development by Dementia UK, offering life-changing emotional and practical support, expert knowledge and understanding. Caring for those living with dementia requires a special set of skills and our team is specially trained to make sure our residents live fulfilling lives in a safe environment.

We offer a market-leading and practical approach to caring for people who live with dementia, and providing support for the family and friends of those moving into long term dementia care. It’s important to us to get to know the people we’re supporting and to ensure that their home environment is dementia-friendly.

We understand that living with dementia brings its own challenges, and each person’s experience is unique. With that in mind, our team at Millbrook Lodge is here to ensure all our residents enjoy an independent and fulfilling life, focusing on what they would like to do. With the support of our Admiral Nurses, we are able to help families with advice, and run support groups for local communities with suggestions of how to support their loved one in this life stage. There are over 400 Admiral Nurses in the UK, but just thirteen working in care homes, and we’re very proud to employ five of them to support our residents and their families.
