New Friendship Shed brings community together at The Lakes Care Centre

Residents, local community members and partners came together to celebrate a new beginning at The Lakes Care Centre in South Cerney, as the home's popular Men's Shed was officially relaunched as the Friendship Shed.

Working in partnership with The Churn Project, the Friendship Shed has been created as an inclusive space where everyone is welcome to connect, share skills, and enjoy meaningful activities together.

The first session marked an exciting milestone, with ladies joining the group for the very first time. Participants worked side by side to build bug hotels for the home's wild garden, creating safe habitats for insects while enjoying conversation, laughter and teamwork.

The activity not only supported local biodiversity but also highlighted the power of shared experiences in bringing people together, reducing social isolation and creating lasting friendships.

Nicola Millar, Home Manger at The Lakes Care Centre said:

We are delighted to launch our Friendship Shed in partnership with The Churn Project. It was wonderful to see new faces joining us and everyone working together on such a creative project. The Friendship Shed is about much more than making things – it's about building friendships, supporting wellbeing, and creating a welcoming space where everyone feels they belong. We can't wait to see it continue to grow.

The Lakes Care Centre looks forward to hosting many more Friendship Shed sessions, strengthening connections between residents and the wider community while providing opportunities to learn new skills, support local wildlife, and make lasting memories together.
