Carer, Olivia Wallis, who works at OSJCT Patchett Lodge in Holbeach has been chosen as Lincolnshire Young Carer of the Year in The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) Shining Stars Employee Awards 2020. The Trust, which employs over 5,200 staff across its homes and offices selected 48 winners from a shortlist of 129 finalists.
Olivia, 21, joined the Trust in November 2017 as a carer. This is her first role in care. She was nominated for the award for going that extra mile for residents, like finding something special from a shop or escorting residents to appointments on her day off. She was praised for growing in confidence and promoting independence and choice to residents.
Olivia said: “Thank you for my lovely awards presentation, where I got my certificate, trophy award, flowers, chocolates and presents. I am extremely proud of myself for winning the young carer of the year and would like to thank the individuals that nominated me.
“My favourite thing about my job is learning about residents and their lives before coming into a home and being able to support them for the rest of their life.”
OSJCT Patchett Lodge, Home Manager, Sabine Pietsch, said: “Olivia embodies the core values of the organisation and delivers truly person-centred care to the residents she supports. Despite her youth she demonstrates maturity and empathy for the residents living in Patchett Lodge and her colleagues. Olivia well done in winning Young Carer of the Year, what an amazing achievement!”
