The Orders of St John Care Trust Launches Resident Storytelling Initiative for World Book Day 2026
Grace Care Centre brings “Alice in Wonderland” to life with a storytelling Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, celebrating creativity, community, and the highest standards of compassionate care.
A Celebration of Imagination and Excellence in Care
The Orders of St John Care Trust is delighted to announce a special World Book Day celebration, centred on collaborative short‑storytelling between residents. At Grace Care Centre, residents have been exploring Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland through a vibrant, inclusive Mad Hatter’s Tea Party where, with the help of Drag Queen After Shock and members of family and care staff, residents crafted a wonderful story full of imagination and heart.
Event Highlights
- Mad Hatter’s Tea Party – Hosted by our very own Mad Hatter, Activity Co‑ordinator Rebecca, the tea party transformed Grace Care Centre’s communal space into a creative and whimsical wonderland.
- Special Guest Performance – Drag queen After Shock joins the festivities, adding flair and inclusivity while embodying the spirit of Lewis Carols fantastical book.
- Resident‑Led Story Creation - Residents were invited to select character images, props, and thematic elements from Alice in Wonderland to craft a collaborative original short story, encouraging creativity, memory recall, and social interaction.
- Collaborative Creation – Staff and friends support residents through brainstorming sessions, group readings and conversations around objects and characters, reinforcing teamwork and communication skills.
Championing Excellence in Care
Grace Care Centre is dedicated to the highest standards of care for all our residents. Events such as these provide an opportunity to go above and beyond in engaging residents in creative, social and person-centred events that foster an environment where every voice is valued and celebrated. Our choice of Alice in Wonderland encourages reminiscence about childhood or early parenthood, and conversations around it can help trigger positive memories and emotions associated with the text itself as well as develop and enhance bonds between staff, friends and residents.
By holding events such as this, the Trust ensures that we maintain an activities schedule that not only delights participants but also reinforces the highest standards of quality mandated by the CQC.
