OSJCT Hayward Care Centre celebrates learning disability week with a special day out for resident Trish

At OSJCT Hayward Care Centre in Devizes, we are delighted to celebrate Learning Disability Week by shining a spotlight on our wonderful resident, Trish, and a very special visit that created lasting memories.

Trish recently enjoyed a trip to Larkrise Community Farm in Trowbridge, where she spent time meeting the animals and exploring the beautiful surroundings. A highlight of the day was saying hello to two new-born calves, just two weeks old, alongside a host of other friendly farm animals.

As Trish is registered blind and lives with learning difficulties, the sensory experience of the farm was particularly meaningful. The sounds of the animals, the fresh country air, and the familiar smells of nature helped her build a picture of where she was and fully immerse herself in the experience.

During the visit, Trish completed a scavenger hunt and was rewarded with a daisy, a simple but treasured reminder of a joyful day spent outdoors.

Moments like these demonstrate the importance of creating opportunities that are accessible, person-centred, and enriching for people living with learning disabilities. At Hayward Care Centre, we believe everyone deserves the chance to explore, connect, and experience the world in ways that are meaningful to them.

Learning Disability Week is an opportunity to celebrate individuality, challenge misconceptions, and recognise the incredible contributions and experiences of people living with learning disabilities.

For our team, this visit was a beautiful reminder that often the simplest moments create the most lasting memories.

Hands were held, smiles were shared, and new animal friendships were formed along the way.

The Flicker of Her Eye

The flicker of her eye

Reduces to be still

The sounds, the smells

A country thrill.

The daisy held tight

Attracts the bee

And suddenly

There is so much more to see.

The billy goat

An inquisitive chap

Comes over to greet us

And hands start to flap.

Piggy antics

Rolling in the puddle

Gazing at the bunny rabbit

Really wanting a cuddle.

What a privilege it was

To be there with you.

Memories were made

And new animal friends too.

At OSJCT Hayward Care Centre, we are proud to celebrate every person's unique journey and remain committed to creating opportunities that promote independence, inclusion, and joy every day of the year.
