OSJCT hosts harvest festival for Gloucestershire residents
Residents from The Orders of St John Care Trust homes across Gloucestershire enjoyed a seasonal celebration at the county’s harvest festival.
Around 100 residents plus employees and volunteers from twelve care homes gathered at Hatherley Manor Hotel in Gloucester for the annual event.
All homes had been busy in the run-up to the event making home-made bread plaits, corn dolls and harvest hampers, which were displayed on the day to be judged.
Michael Bosworth, a volunteer from Paternoster House, led a blessing, prayer and history of harvest festival.
Residents also enjoyed lunch, quizzes and live music from Rat Pack style vocalist John Prescott.
Sian Dewhurst, Volunteer and Events Manager for the Trust in Gloucestershire, who organised the event, said: “Residents had a lovely afternoon celebrating harvest together. As usual the homes had gone to a great deal of effort making their harvest wares and the standards of entries across the categories was very high. It’s also a great social event, with residents really enjoying lunch out and the entertainment.”
OSJCT’s Assistant Director for Gloucestershire Helen Bayliss added: “Our harvest festival is always a lovely occasion, which we know residents really look forward to. I’d like to thank all those Trust employees and volunteers who once again made the harvest festival so special for our residents. I’d also like to congratulate all our residents who worked so hard on some fantastic harvest displays.”
