OSJCT takes action on dementia
Matt Aldridge, Labour Candidate for Salisbury, discusses dementia services with Rebecca Flood, Bemerton Lodge Home Manager and Stephanie Smart, Admiral Nurse.
Dementia Action Week,13 - 19 May
Dementia care at OSJCT starts with our highly skilled, knowledgeable, and creative teams which are equipped with the skills and knowledge to support you or your loved one.
Our care teams are guided by our award-winning team of Admiral Nurses, qualified nurses with a professional specialism in dementia who are supported by the charity Dementia UK. As well as working with our teams, Admiral Nurses drive Life Story work with residents. They also provide emotional support, practical advice, information and skills to help families and friends of residents living with the dementia to understand the disease and support their loved one.
During Dementia Action Week 2024, our Admiral Nurses will launch the Trust’s reviewed Dementia Care Framework and the Dementia and Wellbeing Accreditation tool with teams in homes. They will also spend time in our care homes supporting Life Story events for residents and families, as well as dementia awareness sessions for families, friends and local community.
Admiral Nurses will also be hosting special events for the local community during Dementia Action Week, including:
- 13 May, Dementia Awareness Event at Edwardstow Care Centre, Stow-on-the-Wold, led by Rachel Stirton, Admiral Nurse
- 14 May, Dementia Awareness Event at Grace Care Centre, Thornbury, led by Rachel Stirton, Admiral Nurse
- 18 May, Q&A about transitioning to long term care at Athelstan care home, Malmesbury, led by Stephanie Smart, Admiral Nurse.
Earlier this month, Labour parliamentary candidate for Salisbury, Matt Aldridge visited Bemerton Lodge (pictured above). He met with residents and team members including Rebecca Flood, Home Manager and Stephanie Smart, Admiral Nurse. During the visit discussions took place about the Trust’s dementia services in advance of Dementia Action Week, speaking up for care ahead of the forthcoming General Election, and the importance of residents having a voice as part of their local community.
