Oxford Care Home Resident Takes to the Slopes for the First Time at 83
Proving it’s never too late for new adventures, Bridget takes on her first-ever ski run at 83.
An extraordinary birthday wish came true this week for Bridget Hilton, a much-loved resident of Wellford Gardens Care Home, as she celebrated her 83rd birthday in the most unforgettable way - by taking to the snowy indoor slopes of Snozone Milton Keynes for her very first skiing experience.
Bridget, known for her warm smile and adventurous spirit, often reminisces about sledging down the slopes with her siblings as a child - always made to go last, but rewarded with extra hot chips. When staff at Wellford Gardens saw how happy these memories made her, they were determined to give her a birthday to remember - and Bridget embraced the challenge with her trademark enthusiasm.
Wrapped up in winter gear and supported by an experienced guide, Bridget took to the slope with confidence and excitement. “I loved it!” she said afterwards, beaming with delight. “The guide who supported me down the slope was fantastic. I put all my trust in him and he made me feel very safe. It was very exciting - and I had a great time.”
Her instructor praised her bravery and positive attitude, noting how quickly she relaxed into the experience and enjoyed the thrill of the descent. The team at Wellford Gardens explained that “This is exactly why we love to support resident wishes,” the home manager Dorte shared. “Seeing Bridget’s joy, her courage, and her sense of achievement - it’s incredibly inspiring.”
Bridget’s snowy adventure has already become the talk of the home, encouraging other residents to dream big and think boldly about what they might like to try next.
Bridget’s 83rd birthday will be remembered not only as a celebration of life, but as a reminder that new experiences have no age limit - and that it’s never too late to chase a little adventure.
