Pre-Election Surgeries held at St Wilfrid's Priory Care Home
Ahead of the general election, we invited all the candidates in the Arundel & South Downs constituency to give a surgery at St Wilfrid’s Priory care home.
OSJCT feel it is important that any of our residents who want to vote have the chance to do so in an informed and convenient way, and we were delighted to welcome Andrew Griffith (Cons), Bella Sankey (Lab) and Alison Bennett (LibDem) for coffee mornings at the home. This gave them an opportunity to discuss their policies and for our residents and team to ask the questions they wanted to make an informed choice.
Andrew Griffith (Conservative) was asked about the importance of social care and the funding of that care in the future, and he responded “Having had personal experience of social care I know just how important for both the cared-for person and their family that care is of the highest quality. As a nation we need to recognise the importance of social care, to fund it properly and to fully value the most important element, the carers.”
Bella Sankey (Labour) brought in a special guest, her adorable little baby and there were plenty of volunteers to babysit whilst Bella was talking! She was asked her view on the importance of the vote in later life, and she said “The right to vote is a fundamental principle. It’s absolutely essential that all members of our society are supported in exercising that right. St Wilfrid’s are doing excellent work in ensuring their residents vote on 12 December and I would urge all those with caring responsibilities to do the same.”
Alison Bennett (LibDem) spent her time with us in one-on-one conversations with the residents, giving them the opportunity to ask the questions that mattered to them the most.
Most of our residents have used the postal vote, and are proudly wearing their ‘”I have voted” badges today.
