Resident reunited with her racehorses
As Gold Cup fever hit Cheltenham, Edwardstow Court was determined that the pandemic wouldn’t keep one of their residents from her horses.
Edwardstow Court Care Centre in Stow-on-the-Wold, took 84-year-old Clementine, to visit a local horseracing yard and meet their beautiful horses, two of which Clementine owns as part of a syndicate.
Clementine has always been a horse lover and has kept horses for many years. One of her earliest memories is that she would always add the word ‘horse’ to the bottom of her mother’s shopping lists.
Clementine’s late husband was a racehorse trainer and Clementine attended many horseracing meets. Although Cheltenham races could not have spectators this year, OSJCT Edwardstow Court made sure Clementine did not miss out.
OSJCT Edwardstow Court arranged for Clementine to visit Richard Phillips Racing Yard in the small village of Adlestrop between Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton.
Richard very kindly showed them around the yard, and they met all the other horses. Clementine has known Richard for around 20 years. He is a Cheltenham Festival and Listed Flat winning trainer with over 25 years’ experience of training racehorses to the highest level, both over jumps and on the flat.
Clementine said, “My husband trained horses for many years and we always went to the races, although I don’t attend the meets any more, I still watch the horse racing on TV”.
Olivia, Customer Relations Manager, at OSJCT Edwardstow Court accompanied Clementine on her visit.
Olivia said “It was a pleasure to be able to re-unite Clementine with her racehorses. Richard Phillips the Racing Yard Owner, very kindly showed us around his yard and we gave carrots to all of the magnificent horses.”
