Resident Wish Come True: Marjory’s Visit to the Oxford Botanical Gardens
Marjory, had a very special wish come true: to return to a place that holds deep sentimental value for her — the beautiful Oxford Botanical Gardens.
At Isis House, we believe that life doesn’t stop when you move into a care home — it simply blossoms in new ways. Recently, one of our residents, Marjory, had a very special wish come true: to return to a place that holds deep sentimental value for her — the beautiful Oxford Botanical Gardens.
A lifelong and passionate gardener, Marjory has always had a remarkable knowledge of plants and flowers. She fondly remembers visiting the gardens throughout the seasons — from snowy winter walks to crisp autumn days filled with falling leaves and rich, warm colours.
“It was so lovely to go back,” Marjory shared. “I loved seeing all the flowers and being out in the fresh air, surrounded by people and beautiful plants. The team at Isis House really made my dream come true.”
Although her favourite flower, the snowdrop, wasn’t in bloom this time of year, Marjory was captivated by the stunning dahlias on display — “so many colours, it was hard to choose a favourite!” she laughed.
Marjory was joined by her dear friend Winnie, whom she met after moving to Isis House. The two live on the same floor, often stopping for a chat or a wave. Winnie also loves flowers — especially roses, which remind her of her family’s garden growing up. The pair spent a wonderful day together exploring, chatting, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Rachel Smith, Activities Coordinator at Isis House, said:
“It’s a joy to see residents like Marjory and Winnie continue to do what they love. Days like this remind us that fulfilling wishes — big or small — helps residents stay connected to their passions and memories. Life doesn’t stop when you move into a care home; it continues to grow in wonderful new ways.”
Back at Isis House, Marjory is full of inspiration for our Gardening Club, where residents grow and care for plants throughout the year. She’s already planning ideas to bring back for the annual “Trust in Bloom” competition!
