Residents at Langford View enjoyed a Royal Ascot-themed afternoon with racing, afternoon tea and sweepstakes. They got glammed up in hats and accessories from Sobell House and a resident’s family member for an afternoon at the races.
Langford View care home in Bicester, part of the not-for-profit care provider The Orders of St John Care Trust, celebrated Ladies (and Gentlemen) Day at Royal Ascot with a lively racing-themed afternoon for residents.
Residents enjoyed watching the races together, taking part in sweepstakes, and selecting their own horses, alongside a traditional afternoon tea of scones and home-made Pimms. The event created a fun and sociable atmosphere, with plenty of laughter and friendly competition throughout.
To mark the occasion, residents dressed up in hats and accessories, some having their nails and makeup done and enjoyed themed photo opportunities using race backdrops to really capture the essence of race day. Hats were also taken around to residents who were unable to attend the main event, helping ensure everyone was included in the celebrations.
Hats and bowties were donated by a resident’s family member, who previously owned a hat shop, helping residents to dress up for the occasion. Additional hats, scarves and accessories were kindly lent by the team from Sobell House warehouse in Bicester.
Residents were seen thoroughly enjoying the afternoon, with even those who do not usually take part in activities getting involved and joining in the fun.
Patricia Pita, Home Manager, said:
“It was a wonderful afternoon, and it was especially lovely to see residents who don’t usually engage in activities getting involved and enjoying themselves. The hats, races and photo opportunities really helped bring the spirit of Royal Ascot into the home. At Langford View, we like to bring the outside world in, one event at a time.”
The celebration reflects the home’s ongoing commitment to creating enjoyable, inclusive activities that support wellbeing and community life.
