Residents at OSJCT The Lakes Care Centre Enjoy a Wonderful Day at the Dementia Cycling Club

Residents at The Lakes Care Centre recently enjoyed a fantastic day out at the Dementia Cycling Club, where they experienced the freedom and joy of cycling on specially adapted bikes designed to support people living with dementia and those with mobility needs.

From the moment they arrived, residents received a warm welcome from the club’s dedicated volunteers and staff, who ensured everyone felt safe, comfortable, and confident throughout the visit. The adapted bicycles provided an opportunity for residents to enjoy gentle exercise while taking in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

The day was filled with smiles, laughter, and plenty of happy memories. For many residents, the experience sparked fond recollections of cycling adventures from their younger years, encouraging meaningful conversations and reminiscence. The outing not only supported physical wellbeing but also enhanced confidence, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.

Following the cycling session, residents spent time together reflecting on their favourite moments from the day and sharing stories inspired by the experience. It was a truly meaningful outing that promoted community engagement, sensory stimulation, and a sense of achievement, while creating lasting memories for everyone involved.

Nikkie, Home Manger at The Lakes Care Centre said:

Trips such as these play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents. Meaningful community experiences help reduce social isolation, encourage physical activity, stimulate memories, and provide opportunities for residents to remain connected with the world around them. Activities that promote independence, enjoyment, and social interaction are incredibly important in helping people live well and maintain a positive quality of life.

The Lakes Care Centre would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the Dementia Cycling Club for making the day so special. Residents and colleagues alike are already looking forward to their next visit.
