Sainsbury’s volunteer at Goodson Lodge
To celebrate their 150th year, Sainsbury’s have partnered with nominated organisations in their local communities.
The supermarket invited entries from organisations interested in receiving voluntary service to mark their 150 years in existence – and Goodson Lodge was selected by Sainsbury’s to receive 150 days voluntary service between May and October.
Sainsbury’s wished to give something back to local communities as a thank you for their continued support in shopping at the supermarket. A spokesperson said that Sainsbury’s recognised that its success is entirely due to the loyalty of people living in such communities.
So far, Sainsbury’s volunteers have assisted with coffee mornings, a games afternoon and a social event at Goodson Lodge. And several residents have been out to visit the café and to browse at the local store.
Volunteers came to help at the garden party held recently to celebrate a resident’s 100th birthday and the store also donated plates, bowls and napkins for the event.
The first Sainsbury’s shop was opened in Drury Lane in 1869 by Mary Ann and John James Sainsbury. Their mission was to provide safe affordable food for the local community.
