Sir Aubrey Ward House in Marlow Hosts Christmas Light Switch-On Celebration
A Christmas Light Switch-On Celebration at Sir Aubrey Ward House Care Home in Marlow, making residents' and families' wishes come true.
At Sir Aubrey Ward House, Christmas has always been a time of togetherness and gathering with the people we love. This year, we were delighted to have residents, families, friends and neighbours join us for our Christmas Light Switch-On on Thursday 27 November 2025.
Many of our families have shared their sadness that their loved ones are no longer able to go out to festive events in the community in the way they once did. Health needs change, mobility becomes harder, and those familiar traditions — the carols, the lights, the cheer can start to feel further away.
This year, the team felt strongly that no one should miss out on the joy of Christmas.
They decided to bring the celebration home. By hosting a Christmas Light Switch-On, a joyful and gentle celebration for residents and their families.
Mia Harris, Deputy Manager, said, "Our residents deserve to feel part of the community, even when their health makes it difficult for them to go out. When one of our residents became too unwell to attend the main Marlow display, we decided to bring the magic to them instead. This event is about creating joy, happiness, and a true Christmas spirit for everyone at Sir Aubrey Ward House.
Health should never stop someone from celebrating something they love, and this is a very special time for our residents, staff, friends, and families."
The evening began with a Christmas performance by their much-loved resident choir, led by Victoria Williams.
And of course, no Christmas celebration would be complete without a magical guest…
Father Christmas arrived to help switch the Christmas lights on, filling the home with sparkle and joy.
To make the evening even sweeter, the catering team served homemade festive food, mince pies, hot chocolate, Baileys and other seasonal drinks, offering a chance to sit together, share stories, and feel the comfort of the season.
The evening was a Christmas wish come true for our residents and families, and the start of a new tradition for years to come.
