Sláinte and craic at Lake House for St Patrick’s Day
Celebrations to mark St Patrick’s Day were in full swing at Lake House, with homemade decorations adorning the home, themed activities and music, along with traditional Irish food and Guinness on the menu.
On the lead up to St Patrick’s Day, residents, including Ernest (pictured below), got into the spirit and turned their hands to creating themed garlands and shamrocks to festoon the home. The effect on the day was very festive, and, together with the Irish flag flying at full mast outside, there was no mistaking the reason for the celebrations.
Throughout the day, residents took it in turns in their social bubbles to join activities in the main hall which included baking soda bread, St Patrick’s Day bingo, and joke hour, while listening to Riverdance and other traditional Irish folk music.
Glynis (pictured below) particularly enjoyed baking the soda bread and she reminisced about her father’s career as a baker and the skills he taught her.
Residents enjoyed a delicious lunch of traditional Irish stew and the soda bread they had baked, washed down with Guinness or a soft drink. It was a perfect occasion for residents to raise a glass, offer a sláinte to those in their social bubble, and enjoy the craic that comes with celebrating St Patrick’s Day.
Home Manager, Alexandra Grindle, said: “We love marking traditional occasions at the home like St Patrick’s Day and we usually have lots of fun and celebrations. It’s important that we continue to do something special on these days during the pandemic to help keep things as normal as possible.”
