Small caterpillars become beautiful butterflies
Jubilee Lodge in Bourton on the Water releases their butterflies
The residents at Jubilee Lodge grew the caterpillars from larva for a week in a pot until they hung from the lid of the pot and hardened into chrysalids. Residents, with the support of the Activities Co-ordinator moved the chrysalids into the “butterfly habitat” and patiently waited and watched for about a week for them to emerge from their chrysalids as Painted Lady butterflies.
After a few days of watching the butterflies learn to fly and feeding them juicy fruits which helped them grow and flourish they were able to set them free in the lovely garden and the residents had the pleasure of watching them fly around in the sunshine. The residents called them “lovely”, “beautiful” and “gorgeous”. It was a great project for residents and staff alike and there were smiles on everyone’s faces.
