A special remembrance service at Farnham Common House
Residents at Farnham Common House attended a special home Remembrance Day service.
Residents at Farnham Common House attended a special home Remembrance Day service held by Minister Nigel from the United Reform Church in Burnham. He was joined by Dr Neil Colman and his wife, Janet, who was a captain in the Army.

At 11 am, residents and staff gathered around the memorial garden where a 2-minute silence was observed by all, and a wreath was laid by home manager Nathan and resident Trish. The Memorial Garden has been created by residents as a quiet place of remembrance, somewhere they visit often when out in the garden. They have added memorial stones, and planted poppies.
This year residents and staff created their own poppies each with special meaning, red - for remembrance and hope for a peaceful future, purple- remembrance for the animals that have served and died during wartime, white - remembrance for all victims of war and multi-colour – represents the contributions of Black, African and Caribbean communities to the war effort as both service members and civilians and untold historical legacies of these communities in various wars.
Home Manager Nathan Manthorp said, “I know all of the residents and staff want to pay their respects to those who sacrificed their lives in the hope of a brighter tomorrow. We continue to hope that the future will be a brighter place and hold out hope that sacrifice on such a scale will never be seen again. It is our duty and our honour to make their sacrifices worth it.”
Jeanne resident “It is very important to us all that we are able to remember those who fought for our freedom and continue to do so. The service we have in our home allows us to do this”
