Spencer Court film screening a foot-stomping success
Spencer Court hosted an evening for film and music lovers at its first ever open-air cinema screening of Bohemian Rhapsody.
Dozens of people enjoyed the end of a beautifully hot afternoon in Spencer Court’s garden and started their August bank holiday in style at this special event. The audience was in for a night of entertainment under the stars watching this award-winning, foot-stomping film celebrating Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury.
On arrival, guests enjoyed a glass of fizz from the garden prosecco bar. There were plenty of blankets and benches available as people found a seat and ate their picnic dinners to the sound of a local guitarist playing hits from the 1960s and 70s.
As the sun began to set and the garden’s twinkly festoon lights came on, popcorn was given out in anticipation of the film starting. Bohemian Rhapsody seemed an obvious choice for this occasion: as well as being a hit at the box office on its release, the film enjoyed great critical acclaim and its lead actor Rami Malek scooped the Best Actor trophy at the 2019 Oscars for his performance as Freddie Mercury. The audience seemed to agree as they sang along throughout the film and broke into applause at the finale.
Guests left the home still singing and agreed it was a lovely way to begin a bank holiday weekend.
