Spencer Court wishes a happy retirement to their very handy handyperson
Spencer Court Care Home in Woodstock bids a fond farewell to Richard, the home’s longstanding handyperson, who leaves The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) to retire this month.
Richard proved himself to be invaluable throughout his time at Spencer Court, and, like all OSJCT handypersons, he found the role to be varied and essential to everyday life at the home.
Whether driving the minibus for residents’ day trips, fixing things in the home and garden, serving lunch, helping new residents to settle in by hanging their pictures, or giving a lick of paint to scuffed skirting boards; Richard always showed willingness to lend a hand.
Richard’s work was so valued by the home and OSJCT that he won the Unsung Hero award at the Trust’s annual Employee Awards in 2018, an accolade that Spencer Court’s home manager, Anna Odeyemi, felt was well deserved.
Anna said: “During his time here, Richard demonstrated his versatility by turning his hand to anything and everything to support the smooth running and presentation of the home.
“He has always been a reliable and popular part of our close team and we will all be so sad to see him go.
“We wish Richard all the very best for his retirement and we know he will not be a stranger to Spencer Court.”
The person who will be stepping into Richard’s shoes to take on the role of the very handy handyperson at Spencer Court will be Graham Hill, who has had a month’s socially-distanced induction and training alongside Richard.
Graham and Richard have already set about decorating the home’s garden with hundreds of Christmas lights so residents can enjoy their very own winter wonderland walk.
Anna added: “We welcome Graham to our team and wish him well in his new role. He will certainly be kept busy here at Spencer Court! We are sure he will be just as invaluable to us as Richard has been.”
