Spreading the joy of music
Music sessions run by Grevill House Activities Co-ordinators Sue Tibbles and Simon Storrie are proving such a hit that the pair are now going into neighbouring homes to further share their love of music.
The singing duo started working together in June 2017 and quickly realised they shared a passion for music.
Sue was taught classical guitar as a child and has been playing and singing for many years, including at her local church. Simon, also a guitarist, has been in bands since he was a teenager.
The pair play regularly to Grevill House residents in the main lounge ‑ anything from pop to classic sing-a-longs. They also visit residents in their rooms, so that everyone gets to enjoy the music.
Sue said the response from residents to their music was heart-warming and that they both found it incredibly rewarding to be able to lift residents’ spirits in this way.
“Seeing the smile on the residents’ faces and the joy we are giving them just makes the music activities so worthwhile. Whether they are singing along, smiling, conducting or tapping their feet it is one activity that gives joy to all in one way or another, including us.”
