Stitches for Survival
Athelstan residents knit scarves for COP26 which afterwards will be made into blankets for refugees
Concerned about the impact climate change holds for the future of their grandchildren, residents at Althelstan House knit and natter group decided to combine their talents to make a panel for the Stiches for Survival scarf.
Crafters from around the world are creating panels that together will form a 1.5 mile scarf to be displayed at COP26 in November. It will be used to encourage world leaders to take bold and binding decisions to arrest climate change.
Once COP26 is over, the panels will be repurposed to make blankets for refugee communities.
Lynn, volunteer at Athelstan House, holds her tapestry panel in addition to one made by the residents, here displayed on the floor.
The panels will be sent off by 30th September so they can be joined to all the others to form the scarf.
