Thinking about respite care in Salisbury?
With the prospect of finally getting away on holiday becoming a real option for lots of us, many families are concerned about who will care for an elderly loved one. Respite care could be a solution.
Avonbourne offers respite stays from one week and could provide the peace of mind you need to book that summer break.
What is respite care?
Moving into a care home needn’t always be a permanent move. Care providers like Avonbourne also offer temporary care on a very flexible basis. It might be after a spell in hospital, or as a way of supporting primary carers; respite care allows someone looking after an elderly relative to take a break themselves and go on holiday. Knowing that your loved one is being looked after by caring professionals is a great comfort to all involved.
Respite care also allows an individual the time to recover properly from an illness or a fall, without the temptation to try and do too much too quickly.
Respite Care at Avonbourne
At Avonbourne Care Centre, we offer respite care to people in lots of different situations. At this time of year, many of our respite residents are with us while their family carer goes on holiday. The resident might normally live independently at home with just a little bit of extra help, and we can offer that while their family is away. We have some regular respite residents, who even call us their “holiday place!” It’s always a pleasure to see them.
Sometimes our residents have tried a respite stay to get to know us before they make a more permanent commitment. It often helps to reassure someone who might be a little nervous, and makes sure that Avonbourne is the right choice for them.
How do I book a respite stay?
When someone enquires about a respite stay with us, we find out as much relevant information as we can so that our care team is able to meet all the individual’s care requirements. We carry out our care needs assessment and we’ll write a care plan, just as we do for our permanent residents. The plan includes someone’s needs, but also their wants – their likes and dislikes – so we can make them feel as comfortable and at home as we can. Our residents’ emotional well-being is every bit as important as their physical health.
How long can you stay in respite care?
Respite care is a temporary option, though a respite resident is welcome to return regularly. Once someone has stayed with us once, we often find they settle very quickly when they come back as the people and the surroundings are already familiar and it soon starts to feel like home.
