Townsend House residents ‘Trunk or Treat’ in new Halloween trend
Townsend House brings residents, colleagues and the local community together for Halloween fun
What is Trunk or Treat? The ‘Trunk or Treat’ concept, brought to life by Townsend’s Activities Co-ordinator Jacqueline Smith, who spent 37 years living in the U.S., involves decorating the trunks (or boots) of cars with festive and spooky themes. Townsend House residents, their families and the local community were invited to decorate and display their car trunks, which were then put up for a vote for overall winner. While enjoying the creative displays, residents and visitors were also treated to plenty of sweets handed out by participants.
Jacqueline’s innovative idea was embraced by Townsend House residents and team members, who together transformed their usual Halloween party with this novel approach.
The event didn’t stop with the cars! Townsend House opened its doors to guests, provided freshly cooked hotdogs and burgers, refreshments, and lively entertainment featuring classic feel good tunes. It was an opportunity for the local community to experience the warmth, fun, and sense of connection that Townsend House is known for.
Laura Berry, Home Manager at Townsend House, said, "We love hosting our annual Halloween party, but this year we wanted to try something different that both our residents and the local community could enjoy together. The Trunk or Treat was a fantastic success, and it was wonderful to see everyone getting involved. Our residents even helped create some of the decorations, which made it all the more special."
Resident Mavis O’Sullivan, 90, who has been a resident at Townsend House for nearly a year was thrilled with the event, sharing, "It was difficult to pick a winner as all the cars looked great. It was lovely to see kids and adults getting involved, and of course, there were lots of sweets!"
Laura Berry adds: “This year’s Trunk or Treat event was incredibly popular. We had so much interest from local community groups and businesses eager to participate in next year’s event. But before that, we will be focusing on Christmas next, which promises to be just as fun at Townsend House!”
