Trowbridge school children spread Christmas cheer in care homes with handmade cards and nativity plays
Pupils at Newtown Community Primary School, Trowbridge, have reached out to the local community to spread the festive spirit. The children spent time creating Christmas cards for residents at local care homes, including Goodson Lodge Care Centre and Regal Court, also in Trowbridge.
Mrs Catherine Tawn, Assistant Headteacher, organised this project and liaised with the two care homes. Residents from Goodson Lodge reciprocated by sending Christmas cards back to the children. Children from the school have also shared recordings of their nativity plays with the care homes, so that residents can enjoy the children’s acting and singing from the comfort of their armchairs.
Catherine said: “With local communities and families continuing to be affected by COVID-19, I believe it is important to support each other however we can. Sharing Christmas cards and nativity plays will undoubtedly make the residents smile and laugh.”
Tim Wright, Customer Relationship Manager at OSJCT Goodson Lodge, said: “Our home is part of the community and having relationships such as these help our residents feel connected to the area. We look forward to continuing our links with Newtown School.”
