Valentine’s Day at Edwardstow Court
Edwardstow Court Care Centre celebrated a day dedicated to love.
Valentine’s Day gets its name from a famous saint, St Valentine, there are several stories of who he was. The popular belief is that he was a priest from Rome, but the Valentine’s Day tradition may have originated from an old Roman festival called Lupercalia which celebrated the start of Spring.
It was thought that during the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box, and they would become a couple during the celebrations, some even went on to marry. Over time St Valentine’s name started to be used by people to express their feelings to their loved ones.
Edwardstow Court had a Valentine’s themed dinner on each household which looked very romantic, and the residents made some heart shaped shortbread which everyone enjoyed with a cup of tea in the afternoon.
Edwardstow Court have a couple living with them who have been married for over 60 years, so the team made sure the day was extra special for them too.
