Valentine’s Day at The Lakes Care Centre
The Lakes Care Centre celebrated a day dedicated to love.
Valentine’s Day gets its name from a famous saint, St Valentine, there are several stories of who he was. The popular belief is that he was a priest from Rome, but the Valentine’s Day tradition may have originated from an old Roman festival called Lupercalia which celebrated the start of Spring.
It was thought that during the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box, and they would become a couple during the celebrations, some even went on to marry. Over time St Valentine’s name started to be used by people to express their feelings to their loved ones.
The Lakes Care Centre had a Valentine’s themed party on each household, they played music, there was singing and dancing plus balloon games, beautiful cakes and sweets, and a selection of hot and cold drinks.
The home also received a handmade card from Mindsong who are a local music therapy charity, the residents are looking forward to seeing the team from Mindsong again.
