Valentine’s Day at Rodley House
Rodley House celebrated a whole week of love, they incorporated love of all kinds.
Valentine’s Day gets its name from a famous saint, St Valentine, there are several stories of who he was. The popular belief is that he was a priest from Rome, but the Valentine’s Day tradition may have originated from an old Roman festival called Lupercalia which celebrated the start of Spring.
It was thought that during the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box, and they would become a couple during the celebrations, some even went on to marry. Over time, St Valentine’s name started to be used by people to express their feelings to their loved ones.
Rodley House made their week of love very special for the residents, they used photos of love from over the years, this could be residents wedding days or a special memory and then the team and residents had to guess who was who, it was great fun looking at the old photos!
On Valentine’s Day the team decorated the dining room, and they had a special lunch followed by strawberry cheesecake topped with hearts. They also played Valentine’s bingo and had goodie bags filled with love related treats.
