Resident Betty celebrates her 100th birthday at Westgate House

Westgate House celebrated resident Betty’s 100th birthday with two lively parties, festive decorations, cake, drinks, and a visit from Wallingford’s Mayor, bringing residents, staff, family, and friends together in joy.

On 16th March 2026, the Town Mayor of Wallingford, Councillor Ros Lester, paid a special visit to Westgate House Care Home to help celebrate the 100th birthday of resident Alice Betty Peet, known fondly to all as Betty.

Betty wanted the Westgate House team to be fully involved in her celebrations, and both the day and evening shifts joined in to mark the occasion. Two parties were held, bringing together residents, team members, Betty’s family and friends. Guests enjoyed singing Happy Birthday, a celebratory cake, food, drinks, and a tipple to toast the milestone, with Home Manager Daniela Midwinter noting that Betty and her finally got to enjoy a celebratory drink together. A big birthday banner, decorations, and plenty of laughter made it a truly festive occasion.

Betty, who spent much of her early life in nearby Sonning Common and attended Henley Grammar School on a scholarship, lived independently until the age of 96 and remains a much-loved member of the local community. She was also delighted to receive a congratulatory card from Their Majesties The King and Queen, recognising her remarkable milestone.

Councillor Ros Lester said:
"It was an absolute privilege to visit Betty and celebrate such a wonderful milestone. Reaching 100 years is truly remarkable, and it was heart-warming to see her surrounded by so much love and joy from her family, friends and the Westgate House community."

Home Manager Daniela Midwinter added:
"Betty is an inspiration to us all. She made sure everyone had fun and could be part of the celebrations. From the decorations and big birthday banner to the cake and a tipple for everyone, it was a truly special day that brought the Westgate family together to honour her remarkable milestone."
