A Warm Grace Care Centre Welcome to Samantha
Samantha shares her thoughts from her time working at Grace Care Centre so far
Samantha Jones is a new member to the team at Grace Care Centre. After her first 6 months working as a Carer, she sat down to chat about her experiences so far.
Why did you decide to apply for the role of Carer at Grace Care Centre?
My Grandma inspired me to apply for the role. She has Alzheimer’s and I wanted to learn more about it and care for people like her who have contributed so much to society. I had heard of The Orders of St John Care Trust before. It sounded like a fun and caring place to work – and fortunately, that has been proved right!

I wanted to start my career as a Carer and found the advert for the job online. After doing some research on the care home, I found they were rated 9.7 on carehome.co.uk with lots of amazing reviews from residents and their loved ones. The organisation came across as very professional, caring, and supportive throughout. I knew very early on that I wanted to be part of it.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Well at the start of every day, I feed my guinea pigs! After this, I drive the journey to Grace Care Centre where I start my shift. Every day is different, they are often full on but also fun days and I always drive afterwards feeling happy that I’ve made a difference.
What parts of do you love about your role?
I love spending time with the residents and seeing them smiling and happy. It’s a privilege to hear all of their amazing stories including the jobs they’ve had and places they used to live. I also enjoy the fact that not two days are the same!
Are there any aspects you find particularly challenging?
It’s heart-breaking when residents pass away. Over time spent with them, you build up a relationship which makes it very upsetting when the moment comes.
What are your interests/hobbies outside of work?
I’m passionate about wildlife and particularly wildlife photography. I also enjoy a game of badminton and knitting.
The Home Manager at Grace Care Centre, Mel, reflected on Sam's start to life at the home by saying: “Sam is a valued colleague here at Grace. From the outset Sam settled quickly, being new to elderly care Sam fully embraced all of the training available, and is a Carer of whom residents feedback so positively. Sam tends to provide support on our Russell household, our dementia specialist household. It's lovely to see beautiful smiles on our residents faces as Sam enters the room."
