Residents at Wellford Gardens have been getting active and enjoying the great outdoors as they mark Falls Prevention Week.

What better way to kick off the week than with a morning cycle around the beautiful village of Wallingford, thanks to Cycling Without Age?

Residents enjoyed the opportunity to get out into the local community, take in the scenery and enjoy some fresh air, all while highlighting an important message about staying active as we age.

Falls prevention activities are particularly important for older people because a fall can have an impact that goes beyond the initial injury. It can affect a person’s confidence, mobility and independence, sometimes making people more hesitant about staying active. Regular, appropriate movement can help maintain strength, balance and coordination, while enjoyable group activities can encourage residents to keep moving and feel confident in their abilities.

Activities like the Cycling Without Age experience also support emotional wellbeing. Getting outdoors, connecting with the local community and sharing an experience with others provides opportunities for conversation, companionship and creating happy memories.

A huge thank you to the team at Cycling Without Age for helping to make the morning such an enjoyable experience for residents.

Falls prevention isn’t about asking people to do less, it’s about helping them feel confident to keep doing the things they enjoy. Activities that encourage movement, strength and balance can play an important part in supporting independence and wellbeing.

Our morning with Cycling Without Age was a wonderful example of that. Residents were able to get outdoors, enjoy their local community and have fun together, while we started an important conversation about staying active and reducing the risk of falls.

Throughout Falls Prevention Week, Wellford Gardens will continue to encourage residents to keep moving and explore ways to build strength, balance and confidence while having fun along the way.

Every bit of movement counts and at Wellford Gardens, Falls Prevention Week is off to a wheely good start!
