Wimbledon came to Edwardstow Court
Edwardstow Court in Stow-on-the-Wold celebrated Wimbledon in style, despite the tennis competition being cancelled for 2020.
The Championships, Wimbledon, or just Wimbledon as it is more commonly referred to, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and arguably the most famous. Since the first tournament 125 years ago in 1877, The Championships have been hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London and take place over two weeks in late June – early July.
Many of the residents at Edwardstow Court are avid watchers of Wimbledon and were disappointed that the championships have been cancelled this year. The team at Edwardstow decided to host their own Edwardstow Wimbledon which involved tennis matches in the garden, balloon tennis inside and of course, strawberries and cream! Residents were able to watch re-runs of previous years at Wimbledon and the team organised tennis related word games too.
Amy, Activities Co-Ordinator said, “We all had a fantastic afternoon, full of laughter and games. I think we’ll find an excuse to have a day like this one again, very soon!”.
