World Alzheimer's Month
Residents enjoy sensory activities
September is World Alzheimer's Month. We have focused on sensory activities to show our awareness and encourage the support and demystification of dementia.
Over the last few days, we have enjoyed taking part in painting activities but with a difference. We completed some blackberry painting using the juices after mashing the fruits in a bowl. This brought back many happy childhood memories of blackberry picking along the hedgerows and coming back with bowls of beautiful fresh blackberries to eat and bake with.
Blackberries are full of flavour, taste and colour which makes them perfect for sensory exploration.
We've also enjoyed arranging a variety of brightly coloured blooms with our friends from Moonraker and Rose Florists. Amongst these flowers were sunflowers.
Sunflowers have become synonymous as a symbol for dementia and other hidden conditions and September is, after all, World Alzheimer's Month.
