Title - World Chocolate Day at Edwardstow Court
Intro - Edwardstow Court in Stow-on-the-Wold celebrated World Chocolate Day by making their own chocolate truffles.
Every year on the 7th July, World Chocolate Day allows chocolate lovers around the world to indulge in their favourite treat. The day also celebrates all kinds of goodies made from chocolate, including hot chocolate, chocolate bars, chocolate cake, brownies, or anything covered in chocolate.
Residents and the team at Edwardstow Court made different flavour chocolate truffles and then decorated them. Some of the chocolate truffles were covered in desiccated coconut and others in brightly covered sprinkles, yum! The chef also made the residents a chocolate cake covered in chocolate buttons and bars of milky way.
Chocolate comes from the seed of the tropical Theobroma cacao tree. Seeds from the cacao tree have a very intense bitter taste so they are fermented, dried, cleaned and then roasted before being mixed with sugar and other ingredients to make the chocolate we buy in shops.
Besides the fact it tastes so good, there are some health benefits of chocolate, it increases serotonin and dopamine levels, which helps to boost the mood. Dark chocolate can also be especially good for you. Dark chocolate is a powerful source of antioxidants, plus it helps to improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease.
World Chocolate Day is not just a day to enjoy some yummy chocolate - we also loosely look at it as a health and well-being day too.
Amy, Activities Co-ordinate said, “making the truffles was great fun, the residents were able to relax in their rooms with a slice of chocolate cake and a drink, I think we will have hot chocolate with a film later”.
