World Chocolate Day at The Lakes Care Centre
The Lakes Care Centre in South Cerney couldn’t let World Chocolate Day pass without celebration!
Every year on the 7th July, World Chocolate Day allows chocolate lovers around the world to indulge in their favourite treat. The day also celebrates all kinds of goodies made from chocolate, including hot chocolate, chocolate bars, chocolate cake, brownies, or anything covered in chocolate.
Residents and the team at The Lakes enjoyed some delicious chocolate cake which was made and decorated by the chef. The team also took around a treats trolley containing many varieties of chocolate for the residents to choose from alongside a mug of hot chocolate for the residents to enjoy whilst watching a film.
Chocolate comes from the seed of the tropical Theobroma cacao tree. Seeds from the cacao tree have a very intense bitter taste so they are fermented, dried, cleaned and then roasted before being mixed with sugar and other ingredients to make the chocolate we buy in shops.
Besides the fact it tastes so good, there are some health benefits of chocolate, it increases serotonin and dopamine levels, which helps to boost the mood. Dark chocolate can also be especially good for you. Dark chocolate is a powerful source of antioxidants, plus it helps to improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease.
World Chocolate Day is not just a day to enjoy some yummy chocolate - we also loosely look at it as a health and well-being day too.
