World Music Day at The Lakes Care Centre
Residents and the team at The Lakes Care Centre celebrated World Music Day with a day full of music and dancing.
Music has always existed, and every culture of the world has its own form of music, as distinct and unique to its area as language and cuisine. We are familiar only with scales, known as the diatonic scale which should be familiar to anyone who took music classes or choir in school.
Residents at The Lakes Care Centre chose their favourite artists and the team set the music up, they mostly had a mixture of 60's and 70's tunes.
The residents thought it was really funny when the team and residents dressed up and had their photos taken with party gear on.
Music is not only a fantastic creative outlet, but it can also have many health benefits. When you listen to a particular song it can bring back a happy memory or make you feel energized, this is especially important to residents living with dementia. Studies suggest that listening to music can have a number of positive effects on your health and mental wellbeing and everyone at The Lakes Care Centre were certainly uplifted after a day of music.
